No Pretty Pictures 

Anita Lobel       

       Well, Anita has been rescued from the concentration camp and taken to a sanatorium as they found out they have tuberculosis. Anita and her brother both have tuberculosis and in the sanatorium are separated by gender so they are not together but in the same building. Anita is at first teased for her hair being shaved since it was required in her concentration camp, she can barely speak Swedish and understand it, she feels isolated from the other girls. Soon after she begins adapting to the language, and grows more hair, she is treated well. She begins to love the sanatorium and dreads to have to leave now that she no longer has tuberculosis.  I can reflect about Anita loving the sanatorium because she has been through so many hardships and she finally settled down in a place where people care for her now.

       The Note and Notice I chose is Memory Moment. A memory moment given in the book is when she being rescued and food is being given to her as well as a treat of chocolate. Well she remembers before the war of herself eating chocolate and her fathers chocolate factory. She remember her father telling her she’d study somewhere good in Sweden so she could take over her factory. But that was before the war and she was just remembering.

BLOG FOUR!

   The book I am currently reading is "No Pretty Pictures" by Anita Nobel based off of her experience through the Holocaust. Anita is the one narrating the story and it starts off when she is very young not able to comprehend the events happening. They lived in Poland and Anti-Jewish laws began to take a process of happening and their father factory was taken away. First to leave was there father who escaped to Russia and their mom has fake documents. So they lasted five years without getting caught since they stayed and went places with their Nanny so they wouldn’t have to got to a concentration camp. I think more suspense is given because it’s a real experience that happen to a young girl and her brother.

   The signpost I chose to do write about is Tough Question. A tough question Anita asks her self quite frequently is “Why did it have to be them” or “Will they make it through?” This question is something a ten year old has to ask her self and it isn’t for something petty but for a bigger topic. This question she asks often makes me wonder who will survive from her family, who will be lost, and how will their passing be? They are going through a time period that is extremely rough to get through.

Holocaust Blog

I believe that there was bystanders because there was an outcome they were afraid of like, dying. Many probably stood there because they didn't have much of a broad knowledge of what was going on then and or were afraid of something happening to their families or also be marked as the enemy. What inspired others to become an upstander was that they put themselves in the Jewish people's shoes and thought that if that were them they would want someone speaking up for them, fighting for there rights. I learned so much of the cruelty they went through and how almost no one stood up for these Jews and the others that were being tortured.

Crossed

      While reading my book, "Crossed" I have come to realize how hard the choices they have to make. Cassia and Ky have finally found each other and have been together a few days now.They have stayed in the township with Indie, and Eli trying their hardest to survive and not get caught by Society. They notice a light in the township, finding Hunter one farmer who stayed because his daughter was ill and passed away. There group and Hunter make a trade that put them in risks because it alerted the Society of them because he broke something that set off an alarm. So then they have to go on their own ways to the Rising or with the farmers. 
    The plot of this book is slowly unveiling as you get deeper into it. Basically the plot is about the choices they have to make, Ky and Cassia, they love each other deeply but have different choices on one important topic. Where to go. Cassia wants to go to the Rising and Ky wants to go somewhere else. Indie finds a map leading to the Rising and shows Ky, Ky then attempts to burn the map but Cassia and Hunter arrive before he can do so. Cassia and Ky get into an argument on how Ky was about to take away a choice from her. I believe Ky will go with her because she went through so much to find him and he doesn't want to lose her again.

    So far in the book it has gotten to the intense parts. Both of the characters have been separated because the society intervened in their relationship an reclassified Ky as and "Anomaly" which means he is no longer a citizen in society. Ky was sent to work in the Outer Provinces where he was meant to be killed by the Enemy. Cassia was being sent to different locations until the day they starting taking girls from her group and reclassifying them as Anomalies as well she made her way into that group so she could find Ky. Ky had already escaped the group with two other people into the canyon so he could find the rebellion. They both somehow want to get together and want to be part of the rebellion.

       I feel like they're many genres for this book like one action/adventure and another romance. What I like about these genres is the action/adventure merges with the romance and it's very entertaining because you really want to know what will happen next. Personally I do not dislike anything about reading this genre. Most books I read do something with this genre and I prefer this. Most of these chapters have me biting my nails wanting to know what will be happening is Cassia and Ky will see each other soon! 

Workers' Right Blog (Assessment)

      Assessment

    The argument given in the article I read was that where company owners were charged of homicide. The reason why they were charged of homicide is because a 112 workers were killed in a fire that destroyed the factory because they were being held back by their managers. I think this issue is incredulous and I can't believe people would could have prevented all those deaths just watched it happen. What was so upsetting is this didn't happen years ago it was just in 2012 and these were workers in an unsafe place and lost their lives.

     The argument of the poem "Sweatshop" was to show how much time of her life this job took to still have almost nothing no feelings, thoughts, or understanding because the worked consumed her. The worker said "I have no thoughts, feelings, or understanding" another example is "I don't know, I don't know!" meaning that she has become a part of her job. Also another example would be "It seems to me that the pendulum urges me: "Work, work, work a lot!” showing that that is all she seems to worry about. The poem was different then reading the article because it went more in depth and had more feeling in it you could almost feel the person's pain. I think the poem did affect the way I understood it because of how it was written you need read it more or slowly to understand what the person means.

The Catcher in The Rye      

      So far the book The Cather In The Rye has been interesting and it makes you question a lot. While Holden is narrating he usually says something and goes into that little subject and then goes back to explaining. The author makes Holden think a lot about how life is going on and of his past life. Sometimes in the book when he is thinking or talking I question some of it, because the things Holden says aren't very typical.
    Now that I am further in the book Holden has left his school Pencey and has travel around a lot in the short period of time. First he check himself out in a hotel to have a place to rest and leave his few belongings he had brought from Pencey. Later Holden started going to restaurants and take drink even though he was a minor and tried flirting with some women but wasn't very successful. Holden kept himself busy but he kept saying he felt depressed and alone because he'd always keep thinking what his parent reaction would be when they found out that he was kicked out of school again. All of this shows that the conflict is clearly man vs. self because of his lack to work harder and avoiding his parents, he is scared of the outcome.
